Just a girl exploring the outdoors

About Me

So, you’ve stumbled upon my little corner of the internet and you’re probably wondering who I am! My name is Anne and I was born and raised near Denver, CO. My first experiences in the outdoors were at my parents’ cabin in the Medicine Bow Mountains of southern Wyoming. As a child, I loved to run around the property, climb over logs, and build forts. Unfortunately, our family became busier with school, extracurriculars, and work as I grew up, so our trips to the cabin became less frequent.

During the first half of college, I went on about one hike a year, usually on South Table Mountain in Golden, CO where I was attending engineering school. I enjoyed the trips and would go along when asked by my friends, but would never be the one to initiate an adventure. At that point in my life, I much preferred walking around downtown Golden or soaking in the sun while dipping my toes in the cold mountain run off of Clear Creek.

That all changed in 2018 when I hiked my first 14er with a friend – Mt. Bierstadt. For those unfamiliar, a 14er is a mountain with an elevation of over 14,000 feet. Colorado is home to 58 of them. After successfully hiking 7.5 miles and standing at 14,060 feet above sea level, I was hooked! Suddenly, I truly wanted to be outside hiking and exploring in a way I never had before! (Want to know more about my hike to Mt. Bierstadt?  Check out my post The Hike That Changed My Life!)

I spent my last year in college hiking as much as I could. Unfortunately, I was not able to get into the mountains as much as I wanted due to my school work, part time job, and other extracurriculars in which I was involved. When I began to apply for full time engineering jobs, I knew I never wanted to be too far from the mountains. I decided I was only interested in living in Colorado, Oregon, or Washington and applied for jobs in those states. I accepted a job near Seattle, WA right before Christmas 2018. Although I was sad to leave the Rocky Mountains that I had only just recently begun to explore, I was excited to discover the Cascades and Olympics.

Since moving to Seattle in July 2019, I have been hiking, backpacking, and adventuring all over the Pacific Northwest! My wanderlust and love for the outdoors grows with each trip I take. I am happiest when I am walking down a wooded trail, standing on a mountain summit, or taking pictures of wildflowers!

In fall of 2020, I decided to start this blog to write about my adventures and help others who may be interested in getting into hiking or backpacking and don’t know where to start. So, if you would like to grow with me or share in my experiences, you’re in the right place! As for me, I will be outside, forever chasing wildflowers.
